Inbox by Gmail
inbox.google.com | Shut down April 2, 2019
Google's better email client, killed once its best ideas were copied into Gmail.
What it did
Inbox reorganised email into bundles, reminders, snoozes and smart replies, aimed at people who treated the inbox as a task list.
The facts, as reported
Google announced in September 2018 that Inbox would be shut down, and closed it in April 2019, moving several of its features into Gmail.

"Google announced Inbox would be discontinued in September 2018 and shut it down in April 2019."
Marketur analysis, not fact
Inbox was a working prototype in public. Once the parent decided the ideas mattered more than the product, the product was surplus. Users who built a daily workflow on it absorbed the cost of the migration.
What to take from it
- A big company will happily kill a good product to consolidate into a bigger one.
- Free products with devoted users are still discretionary spending internally.
- Your daily workflow should survive one vendor decision.
